Help Me Resurrect Our Family Blog

As you can see, nothing has been posted on this blog since Feb 2011. I hope we can get it going again. I know the younger generation is enamored with facebook and posts everything there. However, I'd like to ask you to stick a photo or two or some comments or a family story or a travelogue or a scripture or a wise saying on here once in awhile so we can revitalize this blog. There are many advantages to a family blog. One is that the photos don't vanish quickly and we have a permanent record. The other is that a lot of people won't read facebook over the age of 15 and having a family gathering place to let each other know how each of us is doing is a useful and important thing to do. So, please help me out here and use your imagination to see if we can't make this blog a meaningful piece of our family lore and history. Thank you. DMB

Carly and Sadie came to visit us for a long weekend, so that we could get some Sadie-time, and they could enjoy our warm weather....this is what we woke up to their first day here! I know it doesn't look like much, but the layer of ice underneath was enough to close everything at least for the morning...but by the next day it was 70 degrees and gorgeous...that's how we do it in Texas!

Sadie loved the park, and would say "wee" each time the swing went back and forth.

Sadie's favorite thing? Feeding goldfish to Abby...instant friends!!

We celebrated Courtney's 24th birthday while they were here.

It was a great weekend!!

We had an abbreviated tailgate party for the BYU-Washington game. Monica, who usually brought a half dozen friends was in California with Michelle and leaves soon for her mission in Minneapolis. Last week, my older kids participated in a piano recital. I've been their teacher so far and I'm so proud of my little pianists!

After the recital, my little girls had a fabulous time running around together! They are stinkin' cute if I do say so myself!

We are enjoying our summer vacation and are doing all the good things like staying up too late and sleeping in and swimming a lot! I hope you all are doing well and I look forward to seeing you at the end of the month!

Dear Mom and Dad and Grandma and Grandpa, We're all sorry we can't be there on this Memorial Day with armloads of purple iris and lilacs to pay tribute to your resting place in person, but we all live too far away and we each are getting closer to the end of our own earthly existence. But we can each tell you that not a day goes by that we don't think about you, and miss you, and have questions to ask you, because, especially you, Mom, were so darn stingy with information that we wanted to know and still want to know. We are all continually amazed as we gain new insights each year about the magnitude of the sacrifices you made and the perseverance you unwaveringly pursued to bless each of us and make our lives possible and to endow us with the qualities that we each possess. We owe you more than we can ever repay. Though we can't be there today, we are all sentimental cry babies and cherish all of the sights and sounds and voices and winter snows and summer flowers and hayfields and admonishments to go to bed at 8:30 even when we were 30 years old. We thank Burchell and Ruby for bringing flowers to your graves each Memorial Day, as close as we can get to being there ourselves. This was taken on the annual trip to Las Vegas during which the men go watch the BYU basketball team lose quickly. I am not sure if fun was had by all since I was not there, but the trip was not a total loss because we now have this fabulous picture!

The boys are continuing to grow and keep us on our toes almost 24 hours a day. They are sweet little guys though. Max is in the mid 7 pound range and Matthew is in the mid 6 pound range. I took these pictures the other day and didn't realize how alike the boys look until I looked at the pictures. Max is on the lady bug blanket and Matthew is on the pink one ( I know I know, but I ran out of clean blue ones and I had pink from my girls)

Max and Matthew came home today. We didn't think it would ever actually happen, but at 6:00 tonight we brought them home. It is strange having them here without any monitors or nurses but it will be so nice to be able to see them whenever we want to. They were born three weeks ago at midnight so they spent 3 weeks in the NICU. They are doing well and are so cute! Go to our family blog for more info.

We are!! Go cougars and all that. What a fabulous game! And Grandpa, I appreciated your thoughts over on The Curmudgeonly Professor. But I must say that although I have become quite the football fan, I don't always understand all the rules. I discovered last night that my ten year old son knows more about football than I do. That shouldn't be terribly surprising considering he's playing his third season this year, but still. He was able to explain to his poor un-football-educated mother why and how the whole declining the penalties works. (Andrew is playing tight end this year. It's so much fun to watch!) Maybe by the time he's playing in highschool, assuming that happens, I'll actually understand the game. Oh, and did I mention...GO COUGARS!!

Sad news: Our ever-so-friendly dog and family companion for 10 years, Allie, passed away on Monday. She loved people, had a killer tail, and just needed to be included in everything, including family prayer, meal preparation, and greeting guests at the door. She loved to nose her way under the kids' folded arms during prayer, follow Sharman's every step around the kitchen (she particularly liked to stand guard at the refrigerator), and go on long, long walks with Jim. She didn't always respond to "come," but she ALWAYS came when we said "treat!" We miss her.

It's time for the egregiousness that has become this blog to be moved from top spot! And so I present you with pictures of something MUCH cuter. My kids!

A couple of weeks ago, the kids caught a garter snake out in the yard. The snake got to go on many adventures and traveled far and wide. Mostly in the grimey hands of a six year old. It's really a miracle they didn't kill the poor snake.

On the 16th, Andrew turned 10! He had a fabulous birthday (for details visit my blog), and I now feel even older than before! I can't believe I'm old enough to have a ten year old! Now that's just scary!

And finally, Andrew and Lillie had their first ever piano recital. It was nothing big, but they did great and it was fun to see! (Again, for more details, see my blog!)

Phew! I feel better now. I could hardly come here anymore knowing I would have to stare at Clenched Jaw! My kids are WAY cuter, if I do say so myself!

You would have to witness the situation first hand to see how complicated life can be when you are trying to tend newborn child no. 6, Emily Claire, while the other five happen to have a day out of school, occupying themselves with decorating the driveway, the mailbox, jumping off the top of eight foot walls, to which event the explanation was provided: "We were just playing a game." Monica ran it in half an hour, but I walked with my friend Stacy (who is a "survivor") and we took our sweet time. It was an amazing experience to walk/run with over 18,000 people. Don't we look smarter now! We had a great time....standing around in high heels, in the sun, on the asphalt for almost an hour; and then parading past all the professors and dignitaries, and then sitting forever through all the speeches. Actually, Thursday wasn't too bad at all, but sitting for nearly three hours at the Marriott School Convocation on Friday was out of control. But alas, we all survived and tried to have fun in spite of the "dignity" of the occassion.

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our 9th grandchild! Emily Claire arrived at 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 2nd. She weighed 9lbs 4oz. and was 20 inches long. She's awfully cute! We enjoyed visiting Stacey in the hospital. She was doing great and went home on Sunday. Here's a couple of pictures.

Ella turned four today and we had a great time celebrating. She was excited all day long. We went out for some yogurt this afternoon at a place in Draper called Frogurt. She thought it was cool because she got to pick her flavor of ice cream and all of the toppings. Then we had dinner and opened presents and ate cake. I think that was her favorite part. I can't believe she is already four. How time flies!

I realize the photography leaves something to be desired (taken out of the window of the car traveling 70mph on the highway!), but you get the idea. Whitney and I visited Sam Houston State University on our continuing tour of Texas schools. This statue is of course the namesake of this school. He stands along I-45, and is more than a little creepy when you come around the bend in the road, and there he is. This is reportedly the largest statue of an American hero in the country and stands 65 feet tall. In Texas we believe bigger is definitely better!!! Haha!

It's Twins!!

Some of you already know this, but for those of you that don't, or that don't follow our blog I will post our news here.

We were surprised to find out we were pregnant a few months ago and even more surprised a few weeks later when my first ultrasound at 10 weeks revealed twins. I think that shock didn't wear off for a few weeks for all of us. We just had another ultrasound on Friday and both babies are growing and seem to be doing well. I knew they were in there, but seeing them again brought back the same sense of disbelief.

We didn't tell Ella about the twins until my appointment on Friday and she was so cute and so excited, although since then she has posed the question more than once "How are you going to take care of all of us?" What a great question. Sometimes I wonder that myself, but I know we will manage.

I am due September 27th, although full term for twins is actually 3 weeks earlier than that. I hope to keep them in as long as possible. I am posting the ultrasound pictures from my last ultrasound. The top picture is one of the babies, the second is the other baby, and the third is them hanging out together bunk bed style. Our next ultrasound is April 23rd where we hope to find out the sexes. Our family blog is private so if you haven't been invited and would like to be, just leave your e-mail in a comment on this post and I will send you an e-mail.

We had quite the eventful week this last week at our house! Miss Lillie turned 8 on Thursday, then on Friday she had a birthday party consisting of 9 giggling little girls. We painted nails, made body glitter, and had facials after which they played the Wii. It was a great day, though I was pooped! But our fun was not over yet! Saturday, Lillie was baptized. It was a wonderful day, fraught with a little too much excitement (holes burnt in carpet, lamp shattering to a million pieces), but nothing could dampen the Spirit that was felt! Lillie was beautiful and had such a wonderful smile as she came up out of the font. I've decided that these are the moments a parent lives for. I was so proud of her!

Aaron's ROTC drill competition results

Here are the results of Aaron's state drill competition, sent by Kim, who still needs another

hands on lesson on posting!

Aaron had his state drill competition yesterday. That sure is fun to watch. Aaron has been the commander for the team all year and this is how they placed:
1st place: state, overall
1st place: 12 man exhibition (this is an awesome performance)
1st place: inspection
2nd place: regulation
Aaron: 2nd place for his 1-man performance
Aaron and 3 others: 1st place for 4-man performance
Aaron: best commander for armed teams
Aaron's team: 1st place color guard
Aaron: 4th place in drilldown (this is where all 200 cadets are out there following command after command to see who lasts until the very end; something they do at the end of every competition). So they did pretty well overall.

Photos of Mom and Dad together are few and far between...we had a great time going to the parade of homes, and as you can tell the weather was gorgeous. We dined on Marv's great hamburgers, Bajio's, and of course the aforementioned Papa Murphy's to name a few. It was nice to have a few relaxing days with Mom and Dad and Lani!!! I love that yearly tradition. Not to mention all the ground Lani and I covered there and back ( and I don't mean actual miles)...and yes we may have even discussed YOU!! Hahaha

Looking forward to next year...thanks Mom, Dad and Lani!!
